Sustainability

At Wiltshire Truffles, sustainability has been at our core since the company’s founding over a decade ago. Our livelihood depends on the natural environment, and we are committed to preserving it for future generations.

We don’t see sustainability as a “journey” but as an integral part of everything we do. From day one, we’ve always taken the most eco-friendly path to minimize our carbon footprint.

Truffles offer significant environmental benefits. Hundreds of thousands of trees are planted to support their growth, which sequesters large amounts of carbon dioxide.  They also enhance tree health by delivering vital nutrients and water through their symbiotic relationship.

Despite being transported globally, truffles are consumed in tiny quantities, so have a negligible carbon footprint. Meanwhile, truffle growing and hunting require minimal machinery, agrochemicals, or labour: just a person and a dog—making their overall environmental impact likely to be positive.

We’ve used sustainable packaging for years: our shipping boxes are made from Woolcool, a compostable byproduct of sheep farming, and our cardboard boxes are recycled, recyclable and compostable. We also use plant-based, biodegradable vacuum bags, absorbent pads, and stickers.

Our fleet is fully electric or hybrid, and we’ve installed solar panels to reduce reliance on the grid. We also pay a voluntary environmental surcharge to our main shipping partner, DHL Express, to promote sustainable aviation fuel and electric delivery vehicles.

In short, we deeply care about the environment. Whenever there’s a greener way, we take it.
